BOOK OF JOEL
Definition
(1) One of the minor prophets, a son of Pethuel; lived in Judah during the reign of Uzziah. The Book of Joel begins with the denunciation of the judgment of God which will strike unrepentant people and ends with the announcement of the blessings which will follow the coming of the Messiah. (2) Son of Samuel, the prophet. He and his brother, Abiah were judges in Beersheba and disgraced their office by corruption, bribes and perverted judgment. (3) There are twelve others in the Old Testament by this name. Some are noted as warriors and some as leaders and officers of the Temple.
